Greetings from Fresh Start Farms!

Happy November! This is week 11 of the Fall FarmShare – the second to last week of the fall season.  Although we saw a frost on the farms on Friday, we still have lots of delicious fall veggies like spinach, arugula, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, squash, and more! The Fresh Start Farmers still have lots of garlic, so this week it’s on sale for $6 for 1/2lb.

We’re excited about lots of new items this week including 3 new kinds of cheese, local haddock, Cabbage & Mushroom Pierogis, Unity Mix micro-greens, Red Wine & Garlic Salami, and new apple varieties. To make room for these new items, we have sales on VT Farmstead Brie & Contoocook Cheddar for $8 and $4 for tofu.

New Local Cheese!

Smith’s Dill Havarti Cheese is smooth and buttery-perfect for a grilled cheese sandwich or to pair with your favorite crackers and fruit. All of their cheeses are made fresh on the farm with rich milk directly from 200 dairy cows.

Grafton Village 1-Year Cheddar cheese is aged for one year to achieve the classic New England cheddar profile: comforting, lightly tangy, and rich. Try it paired with fresh grapes or sliced fresh apples for a juicy counterpoint to its rich and buttery flavors. 1 Year Cheddar is also perfect for melting.

Blue Ledge Farm’s Camembrie is made with fresh Ayrshire cow’s milk and is a smooth mold-ripened Camembert/Brie hybrid! A buttery slice of bovine heaven! Goes well with a light red or white wine. A great match for any type of cured meats as well!

New! Red's Best Haddock

Red’s Best, out of Boston, brings 100% traceable, Atlantic caught seafood to New England. Red’s Best supports a network of local fishermen through processing, transportation, and distribution. Their traceability technology tracks your seafood from the ocean to dinner plate. This week’s supply of Haddock was caught by Hamilton Fisheries near Chatham MA. Haddock is in 1 lb packages, $15/lb, and arrives frozen.

Top with buttery breadcrumbs and bake at 400° until fish is opaque and breadcrumbs are browned. For more inspiration, try Haddock Piccata or Mustard Roasted Fish.

Grateful Greens Unity Mix

Try out Grateful Green’s new Organic Unity Mix! This mix is a super nourishing blend of sweet sunflower, earthy amaranth, and zesty radish.

New! Pastured Eggs form LaValley Farm

We have been in search of an NH egg producer that can accommodate the demand from our FarmShare and we are excited to be transitioning to LaValley’s eggs for the upcoming season. LaValley’s hens enjoy a cage-free and barn-free existence. The chickens roam freely across the 60 acres of farmland in Hooksett/Allenstown, eat a diet of only natural ingredients, and rotate around the farm to help with fertilization. The hens love grass, but their favorite at this time of year is eating all the squash and melon they want! We have 15 dozen this week, so give them a try and let us know what you think.
