Meet the Farmers
Twenty-three new American farmers make up Fresh Start Farms. Nine farmers are part of the New American Farmers Co-op and grow at Our Farm on Story Hill in Dunbarton, NH. An additional 14 farmers, the Umoja Farmers, grow on land at the St. Paul’s School in Concord, NH.

New American Farmers Cooperative
The New American Farmers Cooperative organized themselves cooperatively in 2016 in order to achieve their collective goals of increased self-sufficiency, efficiency, viability, and long-term sustainability of their farm businesses. The member-farmers represent the Somali-Bantu and Congolese communities and bring rich agricultural experience from both their countries of origin as well as the experience gained while farming in the United States and participating in ORIS’ New American Sustainable Agriculture Program. The New American Farmers Cooperative’s plots are located in Dunbarton, NH
UMOJA Farmers
Umoja Farmers organized themselves cooperatively in 2017. Umoja signifies togetherness or unity in Swahili. Umoja Farmers represent the Congolese, Burundi, and Rwandan communities. Their plots are located in Concord, NH.

Allen Brothers Farms
Westminster, VT
In 1956, following their dream to produce the finest apple crop in all of New England, four Allen brothers purchased an orchard on a southern Vermont hillside in the beautiful Connecticut River Valley. Over 50 years later, Allen Brothers has continued to follow that tradition by growing their own produce.

Atlas Farm
Deerfield, MA
Atlas Farm is a 120-acre certified organic, diversified family farm with its roots in the fertile soil of the Connecticut River Valley. Atlas harvests from their fields and greenhouses year-round and pack storage crops for sale throughout the winter months. Atlas Farm strives to be a model of ecological food production, and to minimize resource consumption and environmental impact with constant improvements to farming systems.

Basin Farm
Bellows Falls, VT
Basin Farm began as a small community in neighboring Westminster Station in 1984. Today, there are about 40 people, farming about 120 acres. Atlas is growing and milling spelt (an ancient grain), vegetables (of all sorts), and some herbs.

Brookford Farm
Canterbury, NH
Brookford Farm is a 600-acre diversified farm with 35+ acres in certified organic vegetable production. The farm is also home to cattle, hogs, lambs and chickens, all rotated on pasture as the seasons allow. All cows and lamb are 100% grass fed and pigs and chickens are supplemented with non - GMO grain. Brookford products are distributed to a 250+ member year-round CSA, restaurants, retail stores, home delivery and farmers markets.

A fifth-generation farm located in Northern Vermont, Boyden Farm’s small farm roots run deep. Boyden Farm was originally an established dairy farm for many years. However, Boyden Farm is now one of the increasing number of small family farms in the U.S. that are using sustainable farming practices to breed, raise and finish grass-fed beef.

Dunk’s Mushroom Products & Foraging LLC better know as Dunk’s Mushrooms, is a gourmet mushroom farm, with an FDA registered food processing facility. Edgewater Farm is a family farm located along the alluvial plains of the Connecticut River in Plainfield, NH. Edgewater Farm currently crops 100 acres of tillable land. The farm has 70K square feet of poly greenhouses in which bedding plants as well as greenhouse vegetables are grown. They also have a small fruit production including 5-6 acres of strawberries, 2 acres of raspberries and 3.5 acres of blueberries.

Four generations of the Darrow family have farmed the hills that make up Green Mountain Orchards. We grow primarily apples and blueberries for the wholesale market and boast over 125 acres of apples in production and nearly 18 acres of blueberries.
