Greetings from Fresh Start Farms!

The cooler weather is finally approaching. Dunbarton farmers have planted new batches of fall crops like arugula, salad mix, and spinach. Hajiya’s radishes, arugula, and salad mix (pictured left) are absolutely stunning this week and make a perfect combo for a fall salad. Kick it up a notch with a new product – organic sunflower sprouts from Grateful Greens and enjoy!

Brewer’s Crackers – Sea Salt & Rosmary Pita Chips

Brewer’s Crackers is an Up-Cycled cracker company in Somerville MA driven to reduce food waste in craft brewing industry (US Breweries in the US produce over 1 billion tons of edible food waste each year that ends up in our landfills!)

They make their chips using Up-Cycled brewery grains, a valuable byproduct from the beer-making process. When making beer, brewers steep super high-quality grains, like barley, in water. They then strain this mixture, keeping the liquid to make beer and discard the “spent” grains. Turns out, these grains are still incredibly flavorful and nutritious. They recycle these saved grains into crackers & pita chips. They pair perfectly with Dips, Cheese, Soup, Salad or just to snack on.

Ground Up Grain, located in Holyoke MA, stone mills their flours using 100% locally sourced grains. Their Whole Wheat Flour is made with locally grown hard red winter wheat and hard red spring wheat.

Each 5lb bag of flour directly supports 95 sq ft of Northeast farmland where grains serve as a cover crop, making our soil and water healthy and supporting a resilient food system

Don’t forget some Fresh Apple Cider (in pints and half gallons) from Brookdale Fruit Farm in Hollis, NH. Apple cider isn’t just for drinking, try one of these creative uses — in salad dressing, oatmeal, soup, smoothies, baked chicken, fall cocktails, even pancakes!

Sweet Rowen Farm’s Storm Bloomy Rind Cheese is inspired by the small, crottin style cheeses of old Europe. These tall, drum shaped, lactic-set cheeses are carefully ladled by hand and aged for several weeks to ensure a good bloomy rind. These cheeses deserve to be served at room temp, as you would a brie or camembert, to allow for full sensory appreciation.

Maplebrook Farm’s 100% whole milk, smooth and creamy, hand-dipped ricotta is made with fresh Vermont milk and bursts with flavor. It is perfect for all recipes, whether savory or sweet.
