Fresh Start Farms in the News!

Last week, NHPR featured the Mobile Market:

“Every other week, Molly Stark brings a van filled with berries, corn and so much more to neighborhoods across Manchester that would otherwise have little access to locally grown produce. Being consistent, Stark says, is key.

“I’ve been at every stop and I have developed relationships with a lot of my customers,” Stark said. “You know what they’re going to want. This particular lady loves garlic scapes, [so we offer] a few extra just so she has them.”

This “farm stand on wheels,” run by the Organization for Refugee and Immigrant Success, launched in Manchester in 2019 and has since grown to include stops in Nashua and Concord. But it’s playing an especially critical role this year in the Queen City, where — unlike many other New Hampshire communities — there isn’t a traditional summer farmers’ market.

Some of the produce offered at the mobile market comes directly from Fresh Start Farms, an initiative run by ORIS that gives immigrants and refugees a chance to advance their farming skills while producing healthy food for local communities. There’s also food from other local producers, too.” Keep reading here!

Smoked Feta, Maplebrook Farm

Maplebrook Farm has taken their tried and true whole milk feta and added the subtle smoky flavor of our cherrywood chips. Behold! Cheese bliss. Starting with fresh 100% Vermont whole milk, they create creamy wheels of feta, add a bit of sea salt, and then create a delicate skin of smokiness; a perfect addition to your cheeseboard. It slices wonderfully, melts beautifully, and even crumbles well for a new spin on your favorite salad topping.

Pinto & Jacob’s Cattle Beans, Vermont Bean Crafters

Pinto Beans are classic beans for refried beans, the beautiful darker brown speckles on these oblong beans fade when cooked and become a creamy filling dream bean that takes on flavor extremely well.

Jacob’s Cattle Beans are one of the traditional baking beans of New England. It is a plump, white and red speckled, kidney-shaped bean with vivid maroon splashes. It is full-flavored, holds its shape under long cooking, and stands up well to plenty of seasoning.
