September is Here!
Summer is winding down and the autumnal equinox is right around the corner; yet it is still a busy time here at Fresh Start Farms. We are grateful for another bountiful harvest this week, including tomatoes, squashes, peppers, potatoes, and even watermelon!
Sometimes our harvest is so bountiful that we have leftovers; when this happens, we donate as much as we can to local organizations, such as Families in Transition and Helping Hands. Donation Shares help to cover the costs of this food that ends up being donated, while also providing fresh, local vegetables to low-income individuals in neighboring communities. Thank you for your support!
Updates from ORIS's Farm to School Program!
As part of the USDA-funded “Farm Fresh Fridays” pilot, students from select schools in Manchester and Nashua have had the opportunity to help farmers and community gardeners start vegetables that have been grown, harvested and processed into pizza ingredients.
This week, we brought the first round of plum tomatoes (over 400lbs!) to processor Genuine Local to be made into pizza sauce. Soon the students will have a chance to eat the fresh, local pizza that they helped create!
