Greetings from Fresh Start Farms!

Week 2 of the Summer FarmShare is bringing all things green! We have lots of beautiful asparagus from Peachblow Farm in Charlestown, NH,  organic swiss chard, collard greens, and kale bunches from Harlow Farm. Plus organic rhubarb from Deep  Roots Organic. Rhubarb and asparagus season are super short, so get it while it’s here!

The Dunbarton farmers have so much to harvest this week! Scallions from Fadumo and Khamis, leeks from Khadija, red radishes from Hajiya, garlic scapes from Isha and Sidi, bok choy and lettuce from Asli and Isho,  and arugula and salad mix from Sylvain!

There are two unique veggies to enjoy this week! From Stout Oak Farm, Yukina Savoy, an Asian green that is tender and creamy and delicious both raw and cooked. They are quite mild and a wonderful addition to salads, stir-fries, soups, or most anything.  Purple radishes, from Picadilly Farm,  have a milder taste than their red counterpart and are perfect for salads.

There are a number of new items available this week! Tomato Basil Crackers from Jack’s Crackers, Caramelized Onion and Red Pepper Sauce from Terra Cotta Pasta Co., Moosalamoo Cheese from Blue Ledge Farm and Organic Triple Cream soft cheese from Champlain Creamery. Plus, lemonade from Carlson Orchards!

Recipes

of the Week

Stir-Fried Chicken and Bok Choy is an easy stir fry recipe that only requires 15 minutes to make! This Asian inspired main course stir-fry is full of veggies and a sweet and spicy sauce and is full of flavor. Substitute tofu for the chicken to make this vegan.

Along with being crunchy and delicious, bok choy is full of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that make it a beneficial addition to your diet. Like other dark, leafy greens, it’s full of antioxidants, C and E, beta-carotene, folate, and selenium.

New!

Tomato Basil Crackers, Jack’s Crackers, Keene NH

Jack’s mom came up with this particular flavor combination.  Sun dried tomatoes, fresh basil, and asiago cheese are the legs of this particular cracker.  During our research phase, it became very popular; with numerous requests being received to get access to them!  These are great by themselves, with some smoked mozzarella, hummus, or even with a little tuna.  Yes, tuna.  You gotta try it.

New!

Honey Sriracha Sauce, Ben’s Sugar Shack, Temple NH

A delightful blend of sweet and heat. Enjoy as a marinade, dipping sauce or on your smoked ribs.
