The new farm plot in Concord is finally ready to plant! For months, the team has been working on infrastructure as well as tilling and preparing the land. Today, the Farm Manager, Jed, mapped out everyone’s plots and let the farmers know that the land is ready to be planted, giving each of the Concord farmers additional growing space!
10 greenhouses will be built on the plot and are set to be delivered in mid-August. Once the greenhouses arrive, clover will be planted between each greenhouse to support soil health, a rain catchment system will be installed to fulfill the water needs, and pollinator-supporting crops will be planted. Keep your eye out for volunteer opportunities next month to help with the pollinator planting!
This week you’ll continue to see lots of zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, and green beans. Cabbage has arrived and this week is the first small taste of peppers and tomatoes. Corn is here thanks to Lavoies Farm in Hollis, NH!
Healthy Start - Food as Medicine for new Parents
Last week, Fresh Start Farms began food deliveries for the Healthy Start program. The Healthy Start Program, sponsored by the NH Children’s Health Foundation, is formed by a partnership between Amoskeag Health, Cooking Matters, and Fresh Start Farms.
The project gives pregnant people fresh and local foods, nutrition education, cooking classes, childbirth classes, and other supportive resources to establish a healthful pregnancy. Each week, a group of individuals in Manchester receive a cooking/nutrition class from Cooking Matters and then Fresh Start Farms builds and delivers a box of all of the items they need to cook the meal at home! Amoskeag Health’s caseworkers provide childbirth classes and resources for a healthy pregnancy. We’re excited to be part of the team and to bring healthy food to Manchester’s soon-to-be newest residents!

A perfect way to enjoy your zucchini, summer squash, and scallions this week!
In addition to turning heads at your cookouts, this vegetarian masterpiece is packed with make-ahead options and smart shortcuts. Make the Smoked Almond Muhammara up to 3 days in advance and stash it in the fridge; skip a step and substitute 2 cups jarred roasted peppers for the grilled bell peppers, and if you’re working with a small grill, cut the flatbread in half, or use lavash instead.
