Greetings from Fresh Start Farms!

Welcome to week 1 of the Winter FarmShare! We are so excited to share the final weeks of the season’s bounty with you. The 9 new American farmers that grow food in Dunbarton (meet all of the farmers here) are still harvesting squash, winter greens, celery, scallions, herbs, lettuce, arugula, salad mix and more. Thanks to local partner farms, we have a large variety to choose from this week including beautiful white cauliflower, broccoli, microgreens, spinach, mushrooms, squash, potatoes, and sweet potatoes.

Today at 3pm you will receive an email prompting you to customize your FarmShare. You have until 2pm on Tuesday to make changes and add extras to your share. If you have any questions please reach out via email at [email protected] or call us at 603 606 2663.

Please keep reading for pick-up/delivery instructions and for information on next week’s schedule changes for Thanksgiving.

Dairy Items

From the northern reaches of France comes the origin of our Coulommiers-style cheese and thicker ancestor to Brie, and the name itself, Lillé. Handmade in small batches, each wheel is a slightly different weight. Aged in its own special room, and lovingly turned regularly, the delicate rind develops evenly with a white downy bloom. This decadently sumptuous soft-ripened cheese has a supple paste core enveloped by a rich creamy body and reveals a subtle mushroom nuance with notes of nut and butter. The rind gives a nice salty bite versus the delicate interior.

Vermont Farmstead Cheese Company gently cares for their land (in South Woodstock VT) and the lives of their animals to make fresh, quality, and artisan cheese available to all.

Cold-smoked over hickory wood in the classic Vermont tradition, this natural raw artisanal Smoked Cheddar comes to life somewhere between creamy, savory and proud. With hints of salt and bacon, this sixty-day recipe is one of our best sellers, with enough grit as is, melted, or on a sandwich.

Founded in 1890, Plymouth is a family-run cheese factory in Vermont. They use only the finest, pasture-rased raw cow’s milk — free of additives, antibiotics and rBST — sourced from a single dairy herd from a sustainable, seventh-generation family farm 40 minutes up the road.

Stew Meat from Robie Farm!

Stew Meat from Robie Farm for a delicious fall stew!

Robie Farm meat is humane, growth hormone-free, all-natural, and local (HGAL) and produced at a small family farm in Piermont, NH. From spring to fall, their head of Normande cows graze day and night on lush grass and during the winter months, they are fed hay and are supplemented with protein-rich grain.

New! Red's Best Haddock

Red’s Best, out of Boston, brings 100% traceable, Atlantic caught seafood to New England. Red’s Best supports a network of local fishermen through processing, transportation, and distribution. Their traceability technology tracks your seafood from the ocean to dinner plate. This week’s supply of Haddock was caught by Hamilton Fisheries near Chatham MA. Haddock is in 1 lb packages, $15/lb, and arrives frozen.

Top with buttery breadcrumbs and bake at 400° until fish is opaque and breadcrumbs are browned. For more inspiration, try Haddock Piccata or Mustard Roasted Fish.

Thank you & we'll see you soon!
